Clarification: Number 9 shirt

by Ayrton Galea - 26th October 2018

Birkirkara FC would like to clarify that during the Annual General Meeting of Season 2011-2012, the shirt number ‘9' was retired for just one season, after it had already been retired for one season in the previous general meeting.

The Club has approached a Maltese player, who is a product of the Youth Academy, to have his first preference on the shirt number ‘9'. However, with agreement of the same player, he opted for a different number. With the shirt number ‘9' vacant, any player could have chosen this shirt number.

The administration would like to make it clear that the members' say has always been valued and respected, and as well as in this case, the administration has followed that members' say of retiring the shirt number ‘9' for one season as per the minutes of the annual general meeting.

The administration would also like to point out that in no means this action should disrespect our former player, Michael Galea. The administration respects and honours the golden era of Michael Galea who gave fourteen years of sterling service towards our club.

Finally, the administration would like to thank all the club members for all their support throughout this season while encouraging them to stay behind the team for the upcoming matches.
