'Marcellinho' eager to leave his mark with Birkirkara FC

by Ayrton Galea - 28th November 2018

Brazilian forward Marcelo Henrique is slowly but surely leaving his mark since joining our Club this summer. The technical forward was named the BOV Player of the Match last Saturday, following his brace paved the way for a comfortable 3-0 victory over Mosta FC.

With a string of satisfactory performances and a key-figure in Birkirkara's forward line, Marcellinho's first goals in the BOV Premier League were only a matter of when. He drilled a wonderful low shot to put the Stripes ahead, before he converted a late penalty to put the three points beyond any doubt in last Saturday's victory.

Just like any other forward, Marcelo was eager to start scoring but he revealed that he kept the pressure low on himself. “I was relieved, and I was very happy to score my first goals in the league to be able to help the team. However, I was not putting a lot of weight into it. I kept working and doing my best every day.”

For the twenty-four-year-old forward, this is his first experience outside Brazil following several spells in his country. “I joined Birkirkara FC because I heard a lot of nice things about the club, but I knew very little about Malta. However, when I got here, I really enjoyed it. I think that I have adapted quite well, and the language is not a problem, as my wife speaks it fluently.”

Birkirkara's next task is the third round of the FA Trophy, when they face Gozitian side Nadur Youngsters FC, who are currently in the second place, and Marcelo is not taking this game any lightly. “It will be a difficult match. I went to watch them in a game and they have a strong team with some good Brazilian players. We will face this match with humility and respect, but we will be all out to get the victory.”

Marcelo signed off this interview by discussing his ambitions with this club. “My ambition is to be a champion and to try leaving my mark with this club. I would like to conclude this interview by leaving a message to the supporters – Keep cheering for us, we will always give our best to put Birkirkara FC among the best of this league.”
