by Ayrton Galea - 8th January 2019

Birkirkara FC and Gudja United FC have reached an agreement over the transfer of loan till the end of the season 2018-2019 of midfielder Llywelyn Cremona.

Cremona will be making his return to professional football after he completed his one-year ban from UEFA. He was found guilty of failing to “not immediately and voluntarily informing UEFA if approached in connection with activities aimed at influencing in an unlawful or undue manner the course and/or result of a match or competition” in relation to the Under-21's National Team match between Malta and Montenegro played on 23 March 2016.

On his return to professional football, Cremona said, “Following a one-year ban, in which in my opinion it was not fair, it's natural that I'm eager to start again doing what I love. I feel like a four-year-old child starting football for the very first day.”

He added, “It was very difficult not to train with the squad, expect the last two months, although we remained active. I would like to thank the players, technical staff and administration for their best welcome after this suspension.”

Llywelyn is now looking forward for his upcoming opportunity with the BOV First Division side, who are challenging for the promotion in the BOV Premier League. They are currently in the fifth position, joined with Swieqi United FC, just two-points under third-placed Lija Athletic FC.

He said, “I chose Gudja United FC because I believe that they have good structure and vision to move forward. I believe that it's going to be a challenge and a new experience for myself that will help me in my career. I want to thank the Birkirkara FC president, Mr. Frank Zarb who understood straight away my position, that is to recover all that I lost in the last year.”

Cremona concluded this interview by commenting on his future. “Although the future is still unwritten, my vision is to play in the BOV Premier League once again with Birkirkara FC. I take this opportunity to wish the club all the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
