Gianluca Bugeja: This debut means a lot

Birkirkara FC Under-19's Team defender Gianluca Bugeja made his BOV Premier League debut yesterday evening when he played the full match against Senglea Athletic FC.

A product of Rabat Ajax FC, Bugeja joined our club last August. He established himself as a key player for the Under-19's Team and his string of positive performances were rewarded by the Senior Team debut yesterday evening.

Gianluca said that this debut means a lot to him as he provided a post-match interview, following his debut. The solid defender said, "This debut means a lot to me although I always try to look forward to more matches in the BOV Premier League."

"I believe that this debut arrived following a season of hard work with the Under-19's Team and as well in the training sessions with the Senior Team."

Bugeja made seventeen appearances this season with the Under-19's Team and the towering defender helped his side to earn a comfortable 5-0 victory against bottom-placed Lija Athletic FC last Wednesday. Despite their disappointing start in this league campaign where they won just eight points in the opening seven matches, the Stripes are on top of the table joined by Pieta' Hotspurs FC.

Bugeja admitted that the team went through a rough patch. "Our start in this season was difficult, but the players together with our technical staff kept on believing. It wasn't easy, but when we look back, we know we proved ourselves right to remain believing in our potential. Our last victory against Lija Athletic FC showed that we are working harder than ever to reach our objectives."

With just one match to go in the Youths League Section A, the Stripes takes on Valletta FC next Monday, while joined leaders Pieta' Hotspurs FC take on Hibernians FC in a match that will be played at the same day and kick-off time. If the Stripes win their match and the Hotspurs fail to win their match, the Stripes will be crowned champions.

The nineteen-year-old player concluded this interview by sharing his views on the upcoming crucial match. "Next Monday we have a crucial match that can lead us to win the league title or a league-decider match. We are expecting a difficult match, but we are looking forward to it because it can be the decisive match to win us the title."
