BOV Premier League - Birkirkara FC vs. Hibernians FC

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd February 2020

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to extend their positive run in the BOV Premier League when they take on Hibernians FC in another direct clash this afternoon at the National Stadium (Kick-Off: 16:00).

Last week's performance against current champions Valletta FC is still the talk of all the Maltese football followers. The Stripes produced an extraordinary performance to trounce the Lillywhites with a shocking 4-1 score.

The win against Valletta did not only extend the Stripes' unbeaten round in the second round, but also conceived slim hopes of finishing in the top four places that could see them participating in European competitions next season.

However, their task is anything than straight forward as the Stripes have no margin for error - just like today's opponents, Hibernians FC. The Paolites need a win at all costs in order to keep pace with leaders Floriana and Valletta.

Following a defeat to Sirens and a draw with Senglea Athletic, the Paolites returned to winning ways last weekend as they defeated Mosta with a 3-1 score. A win that put them just one point away from the top spot.

Coach Andre Paus welcomes back captain Roderick Briffa after serving a one-match ban. On the other hand, Marcio Leandro Barbosa da Silveira is suspended for Hibernians.

In the first-round match, a first-half strike by Stripes' best scorer Federico Falcone earned them a 1-0 victory against Hibernians FC - the first victory for the Stripes in the BOV Premier League 2019-2020.
