Interview With Coach Melania Bajada

by Clayton Schembri - 10th May 2022

This is your fourth championship that you won as a coach with the Stripes, what it means for you?

During my time at Birkirkara, I had the most wonderful 5 years as a coach, 5 years of glory. We manage to win 4 leagues and one was abandoned because of the pandemic which we were also leading the season. As a coach I feel that I grew a lot in my career and for this I can only thank the players, committee and most of all Ayrton Galea who was the first person who believed in me, who at that time was our team manager. I am proud of all the achievements we achieved together, especially this year that we managed to win the 10th league for the club and also winning U/20 and u/16, which means that the club has an amazing future!

This league it`s the 10th one for the Stripes and it means that Birkirkara women will receive a star. How significant it is for you, the players and the club?

The star is somethings that the girls were really working hard year after year to reach the 10th league. We have players in the team that won all the 10 leagues or nearly, so obviously that is something they are really proud of. The star is won in less than 15 years, and this shows the determination and passion these ladies have. I am proud to be part of this progress and hope that we will continue working to be a better team.
