The Birikirkara FC players produced a solid display in front of an acceptable amount of ultras and supporters who challenged the cold temperatures and still went to the Ta' Qali Stadium.

The boys in 'Stripes' showed their winning intentions right from the kick-off, as just after eight minutes, captain Michael Galea received a perfect pass, and before any Sliema defender could intervene, he slotted the ball past Bonello.

Our team continued to be the best on the pitch, but surprisingly, Sliema W. drew level thanks to a splendid long shot by the opposing veteran captain, Noel Turner.

Both teams went for the half-time interval with the scores reading one a piece.

Barely two minutes from the restart, following a mixture in the box, Ronni Hartvig received a pin point pass in the penalty area, where he had no difficulty in planting the ball in the bottom right-hand corner.

When the Birkirkara fans were still celebrating, Alex Muscat had managed to beat Bernard Paris to make the scores level yet again.

'The Stripes' were clearly not ready to throw two precious points away, so they mounted on the pressure, which gave the desired results in the eighty-first minute, as Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza calmly advanced with the ball, before skipping past Bonello, and placing the ball in the empty net. The 'Karkarizi' were in delirium for the third time.

Some feared that the result could change yet again, but it wasn't to be, as the referee's full-time whistle, found the Birkirkara clan celebrating a well-deserved victory which now puts our side just two points behind second-placed Valletta, and ten points ahead of Floriana and Sliema W. respectively.
