Shaun Bajada Footballer of the Year

by Ayrton Galea - 17th July 2010

During the Malta Football Association Awards Ceremony held on Friday night at the Radisson Blu Resort in St.Julians, Shaun Bajada was named Best Footballer of the year for the Season 2009-2010 and was presented with the well-deserved trophy.

This is the first time that a Birkirkara FC player was honoured with the title. To achieve this award, Shaun surpassed a challenging competition, which included his team mate, Trevor Cilia and three other players whom, at present, all play for Valletta FC. These are the former Tarxien Rainbows' player, Denni Rocha Dos Santos, Kevin Sammut and Valletta's team captain Gilbert Aguis.

Last season, Shaun Bajada was one of our key players, whose skills were a vital tool for Birkirkara's third victory of the Premier League title. In fact it was his solitary goal at the 39th minute of the memorable game on Friday 30th April against Tarxien Rainbows, that crowned Birkirkara champions. That win was enough for the 'Stripes' to be declared the new champions of Malta with four points ahead of arch rivals Valletta and just one match to go.

Shaun Bajada has recently renewed his contract with the 'Stripes' till the end of the 2011-2012 season.

We congratulate Shaun Bajada for winning this award, which is both a personal achievement and an honour for the club and we wish him luck for the years to come.
