Interview with Angus Buhagiar

by Ayrton Galea - 11th January 2011

Following the defeat against Valletta, where 'The Stripes' gave a very solid performance and they deserved something more from that game, we decided to interview Angus Buhagiar.

We opened this interview by asking Angus about his feelings about the game and the defender replied, "A game against Valletta, is a game I would be looking forward to, because that is the beauty of football: knowing that you shall be challenging a strong team and expecting immense support from both sides."

Then, we turned our focuses about the game itself, and we asked Buhagiar about his comments after this game, "It was a game that was open for every result as both sides had their goal scoring chances. In my opinion it was a game that a draw would have been a more just result, but this time, luck was not on our side."

A few minutes after Valletta equalised, Angus unleashed a powerful shot which almost gave Birkirkara the lead again, but his shot hit the upright. We asked Angus if he thinks that if that shot had went in, then the game would have been a different story. He said, "Yes, I do believe that had I managed to score the shot which hit the post, we would have been perfectly able to defend our 2-1 score."

Late in the match, few moments before the referee blew the final whistle, Angus dropped Terence inside the box. The referee ordered a penalty and, Terence Scerri converted into a goal. There was some controversy about the validity of the penalty so we asked Angus for his opinion. He told us, "Yes it was indeed a penalty. I'd be lying if I said it was not; I was late in my tackle."

We then decided to ask Angus about his feelings after the game and if for him now the title race is over or not. Angus replied, "Naturally, after the game, I was remorseful, seeing how it was a game in which everyone gave their 110% yet, still we walked away without a single point."

He added, "No, the title race is not over. I will keep believing in us till the end. There are still 45 points to be played and in football anything can happen."

We concluded the interview by asking him about his thoughts about Saturday's attendance, and he replied, "In our last game we showed that Birkirkara is still backed by great support, and, we were pleasantly surprised as we saw the crowd that had gathered to support us.

"I would like to encourage all the supporters to keep up their valued presence at the ground and to keep believing that we can do it this year as well. My heartfelt thanks to everyone for their undying support - We'd be nothing on the pitch without you!"
