Birkirkara aiming to bounce back

by Ayrton Galea - 30th September 2011

Birkirkara will be involved in what many could already consider a 'do or die' match when in the second match in today's programme, 'The Stripes' will face Marsaxlokk.

Birkirkara have now gone three matches without a win. Birkirkara were beaten by Hibernians, grabbed one point in a 2-2 draw against Mqabba while losing the last match against Sliema Wanderers. Birkirkara failed to notch a win since the 27 August, when in second match of the league against Mosta, 'The Stripes' registered a dominant 3-1 win.

Today's opponents, Marsaxlokk are currently in a worse situation than Birkirkara's, as they registered only one win in this league campaign, and now they have gone four matches without a win. In the second match, they were beaten 2-1 by Hibernians. Marsaxlokk were also surprisingly beaten by Mqabba with the latter playing for 50 minutes with a player less and the final score read 2-0. Marasaxlokk clinched a 2-2 draw against Sliema, but they were then heavily beaten by Floriana in the last match as they suffered a 4-0 defeat.

After suffering an injury in the last match against Sliema, Gareth Sciberras is doubtful for today's match, but there is a god possibility that he will make it on time. Angus Buhagiar is also doubtful for today's game and whether he will make it on time or not will be decided in the very last second. In the last match Leighton was still recovering from a minor injury, but he is now totally recovered and available for selection.

Birkirkara are currently 6th with seven points, three ahead of Marsaxlokk and this match is extremely important for both teams to bounce back, especially for Birkirkara who definitely have higher targets.

For this match, Assistant Coach Mr. Peter Pullicino will be in charge of the team, since on Wednesday, Birkirkara FC parted ways with Mr. Patrick Curmi.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and it will leave at 19:00.

After three consecutive negative results, will be Birkirkara be back on the right track?
