Birkirkara aim to consolidate third place

by Ayrton Galea - 10th May 2012

Birkirkara will be aiming to consolidate the third place in the league standings, and end the season on a positive note, when in the last match, they face Balzan Youths.

After beating Hibernians with a 2-0 score, although Birkirkara ended playing with only nine men, they were a depleted side when they faced Sliema Wanderers in the last match. With five players suspended they still managed to defeat Sliema in a comfortable 4-1 victory. With this win, Birkirkara moved back to third place, two points ahead of Floriana. The day before, Floriana had been in the third place, one point ahead of Birkirkara, but they were defeated with a 2-0 score against Valletta.

On the other hand, opponents Balzan seem to have lost all motivation after they made it to the Championship Pool. In fact, they are still searching for the first win after nine matches as their last win goes back for more than two months, when on the 3rd March, they defeated Tarxien Rainbows with a 1-0 score, to make it to the Championship Pool.

So far, these two teams met three times in the Premier League with all three matches won by Birkirkara with a 2-1, 4-0 and 5-0 scores respectively.

After Day 31 of the BoV Premier League, Birkirkara are third with 35 points, two points ahead of Floriana while Balzan are sixth, last from the Championship Pool with 18 points, three points less Sliema Wanderers.

Birkirkara should be in full squad as no less than five players will return from suspension, and Jorge Santos Silva is expected to be fully recovered for this match.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 18:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 17:30.

Come on the Stripes!
