Report of AGM 2011-2012

Yesterday evening Birkirkara FC held its 2011-2012 Annual General Meeting at the Club's house on top of the Mc Donald's.

Club's President Mr. Joe Zammit opened the meeting by welcoming the club members for this annual event of the Club. This was followed with the reading of the minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting by the Club's Secretary, Mr. Ivan Muscat. The minutes were approved by the Club's members present.

Committee Election

The President proposed that the election process starts immediately and in parallel with the AGM. This was approved by the members. The President then reminded those present that the election this year was to be for thirteen members.

Mr. Joe B Grech, Mr. Jonathan Friggieri and Mr. Jonathan Bezzina were appointed as the electoral commissioners.

Administrative Report

The administrative report was presented by the Secretary, Mr. Ivan Muscat. He opened by saying that although the senior team did not win any honours, the Women's team won the First Division League, and the senior team extended its participation in UEFA competitions for another year, being the sixteenth consecutive one.

He went on to say that the committee held 47 meeting and he thanked the committee members for their presence in these committee meetings.

Mr. Muscat than gave a season roundup where he mentioned the team's involvement starting with the Euro Cup where Birkirkara registered two draws, the elimination against KF Vllaznia, the early elimination in the U*BET FA Trophy and last but not least the Premier League involvements.

Following this, he mentioned the Club's sponsors and how important they are to the Club, and how difficult it is to attract new sponsors. He then referred to the new agreement with Eurosport for the new Adidas kits and also thanked the previous kit sponsor, Teamsport.

Nursery, Under 19 and Women Team reports

Mr. Ivan Muscat thanked and congratulated the Women's Team for their co-operation and their success which helped that Birkirkara stays in the top positions.

Following this, he read the Nursery report while thanking Mr. Henry Bray for his service towards the nursery.

He went on by saying that the Under 19 Team also had a fine season under Mr. Peter Pullicino and they managed to end in the third place. The committee believes a lot in the importance of this sector as promising players can make it to the squad which will result that the Club will no need to buy players from other Clubs.

UEFA License

In order to participate in UEFA competitions, the club was required to obtain the UEFA License. Mr. Ivan Muscat thanked the President and the Assistant Treasurer, Mr. Ivan Mizzi for their help in obtaining this licence.

Helpers

Mr. Ivan Muscat thanked everyone that helps the Club especially the Supporters Sub-committee and the Ultras for their support during matches.

Hosting of Women's Champions League

Birkirkara FC has just applied with UEFA to host one of the UEFA Women's Champions League mini tournaments in the Qualifying Round. This is the first time that a Maltese side has applied to host this event. Mr. Ivan Muscat revealed that preparations had already started if the UEFA choose Malta to host this event.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Ivan Muscat said the objectives will remain the same, that is to challenge the main honours and extend the record in UEFA competition.

Financial Report

Assistant Treasurer, Mr. Ivan Mizzi then presented the financial report by and give the main highlights from the audited accounts. He made a particular reference to three players that the Club purchased this season namely Gareth Sciberras, Terence Vella and Leighton Grech, and their impact on the balance sheet of the Club.

Supporters sub-committee's report

Vice-President Dr. Adrian Delia presented the Supporters Sub-committee report. He said that their name changed from the Birkirkara Supporters Club to the Supporters Sub-committee to reflect the closer relationship with the central committee.

He went on to say that besides the regular events that they organised, without any doubt the highlight of this sub- committee was that in less than one year they almost doubled the number of registered members which was a fine achievement. All this was reflected in substantial fund raising for the club.

Last but not least, he said that this sub-committee had donated €6,500 in aid of Martina Fenech.

Women's Team report

Dr. Delia then read the Women Team's report. He said they had a successful season managing to win the First Division League and being finalists in the Women's knock out.

Tommy Camilleri and the rest of his technical staff made a fine job to manage this team and the final result reflects all the hard work that was made by these persons.

Auditors confirmed for another year

Mr. Ivan Mizzi proposed that the Club will once again appoint Mr. Godwin Falzon of Falzon & Falzon as the Club auditor, since he gave an excellent service to the Club. This was approved by the members.

Awards

Mr. Joe Zammit presented three awards during the general meeting. The first one was to the Secretary Ivan Muscat who the President described as his right hand man.

The second award was presented to Mr. Victor Zammit, ex Club President. This was the number 9 shirt to show appreciation for having brought Michael Galea to the Club, a player that wore the number 9 shirt for fourteen seasons.

Mr. Joe Zammit also presented a Birkirkara shirt to Luke Montebello who earlier this season was transferred to Livorno to continue his football career overseas. He wished Luke all the best of luck and expressed his wish that one day we will see him again wearing our beloved shirt.

Number 9 shirt retired for another season

Last year, the committee retired the number nine shirt as a sign of respect towards Michael Galea who gave an excellent service to our Club. The members voted by a show of hands to not make use of the number 9 shirt for another season.

Mr. Joe Gauci Honorary President

One of the Club members proposed that Mr. Joe Gauci should be appointed as Honorary President, in appreciation for his 26 years of service towards our Club. This was approved by a show of hands by those present. The new committee will considering this proposal.

Commitee's Election

Following the ending of the Annual General Meeting, and the closing of the election of the committee, the votes were counted and the results announced.

Next season's committee will be composed of thirteen members. Twelve members were elected yesterday, but another two candidates received the same amount of votes. According to the Club's statute another election between these two candidates needs to take place within eight days to decide which member will be elected.
There were no major changes from the previous committee. Joe Pisani did not seek re-election, while John Borg failed to be re-elected. Jason Deguara is still unsure of his fate, since him and Nicholas Grima got an equal number of votes.
