Optimistic Stripes aiming to qualify

by Ayrton Galea - 12th July 2012

Birkirkara will be aiming to repeat last Thursday's excellent performance when this evening they will face FK Metalurg Skopje in the second leg of the first qualifying round of UEFA Europa League.

With a 2-2 home leg draw, today's challenge might be considered as an uphill struggle for ‘The Stripes' as the only way to qualify is either to win or get a draw of three goals or more.

Last Thursday Birkirkara paid a sour price for their mistakes but they managed to came back from behind twice to prevent losing the match despite dominating for long stretches.

Without any doubt, one of the best factors of Thursday's match was the never-give-up attitude by Birkirkara as they kept fighting till the end. A goal four minutes from time by substitute Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza managed to save the result although a win would have been more deserved for their efforts.

In the intial leg Birkirkara enjoyed much of the possession and they were clearly the better team but Mr. Zammit will have to keep an eye on the Metalurg's forward line as in the few chances they managed to create, they found the net twice.

The qualifier from this round will face Ruch Chorzow of Poland in the 2nd qualifying round.

The match will be played at the Bashkimi Stadium and is scheduled to start at 17:00.

Come on the Stripes!
