Stripes to face City

by Ayrton Galea - 29th September 2013

Champions Birkirkara will be aiming to return to winning ways this evening when in the match that is expected to have the biggest attendance of the season so far, the Champions take on Valletta.

Last Sunday's match between Birkirkara and Hibernians saw the Stripes suffering their first Premier League defeat. A defeat which certainly increased the importance of today's big clash as the Champions will be all out to return on the right track.

Matheus Bissi's sending off just before half-time seemed to dash all the Stripes' hopes last Sunday after they ended up playing with ten men. However the Champions deserve credit for their determined performance in the second half where one was left wondering which side was playing with ten men. The Stripes put on pressure on the current leaders, but this was not enough to take something from the match.

On the other hand, after Valletta were beaten by Hibernians, they bounced back well. They managed to defeat Qormi with a late goal despite a below-average performance. Last Saturday, an early goal paved the way for another narrow win against Naxxar Lions which was the second consecutive one for Mr. Mark Miller's side.

Birkirkara are currently in the fourth place with ten points, two behind Valletta who occupy the second position with 12 points. A win for the Stripes will put them back on track and keeping the pace with leaders Hibernians, while a win for Valletta would mean that the Citizens will go five points over the same Stripes.

The Stripes will be unable to field their best formation as Matheus Bissi is suspended after he was sent-off in the narrow defeat against Hibernians last Sunday.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to start at 19:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 18:00.

Come on the Stripes!
