Stripes in delicate encounter against the Greens

by Ayrton Galea - 2nd November 2013

Birkirkara FC will be hoping to extend their winning streak on Sunday afternoon but their task is far from easy when they face off Floriana FC.

Birkirkara will be seeking their third consecutive victory but they have to be at their best in order to collect the three points. On paper, the Stripes might start as favourites in the encounter, against Floriana, who are second last in the league standings. However, Floriana's standings do not reflect the team's potential, especially when considering they had six points deducted at the beginning of the season.

The Stripes' recent performances are far from their best but they were good enough to register two consecutive victories over Naxxar Lions and Tarxien Rainbows, both with a solitary goal. Over the last two weekends, the Stripes managed to narrow the gap from seven to three points with leaders Hibernians, who registered two consecutive draws.

Last Sunday, Floriana extended their positive run of three matches without a defeat. Following a goalless draw against Balzan FC, they defeated Mosta with the odd goal in three. In their last outing they surprised Hibernians and shard the spoils in a 2-2 score thanks to a late equalizer by Igor Coronado.

Midfielder Paul Fenech will be back for the Stripes following a one match ban. On the other hand, Floriana cannot count on Emmanuel Ibok and Gary Roberts as they are both suspended for collecting their fourth yellow card.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:15

Come on the Stripes!
