Champions hope to extend winning streak

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd November 2013

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to start their second round commitments on a positive note when they face bottom-placed Rabat Ajax tomorrow afternoon.

Many might put the Stripes as hot favourites to leave the Centenary Stadium with the three points, but they must be at their best to extend their winning streak. Despite lying at the bottom of the table, Rabat has all that it takes to spring surprises.

The Stripes' morale is sky-high after coming from four consecutive victories. After they were held to a draw by Qormi, they bounced back with two 1-0 victories over Naxxar Lions and Tarxien Rainbows respectively, before beating Floriana 3-1, and then winning against Vittoriosa with a score of 2-0.

Last season Rabat Ajax managed to avoid the drop from the Premier League Division, which was their main target. This season they are again finding the going tough, and they are currently lying at the bottom of the table with just four points.

In fact, the Magpies were still seeking their first point after the first seven matches. They registered their first victory on the eight match day of the BOV Premier League, when they surprisingly beat Tarxien Rainbows with a solitary goal. Two matches ago, they managed to hold Qormi in a goal-less draw to pick-up their fourth point, before losing 4-1 to Sliema Wanderers in their last match.

Birkirkara will be without the services of defender Zach Muscat who will serve a one-match suspension for collecting his fourth yellow card in the match against Vittoriosa Start. On the other hand, Rabat Ajax have to do without the services of their foreign duo Daniel Pelaez and Diego Camilo Pendas. Both are suspended for also receiving their fourth yellow card in their last match against Sliema Wanderers.

The Stripes will be boosted by their last signing, Nikola Vukanac who is available for selection, having renewed his contract with our Club.

The match is going to be played at the Centenary Stadium, and is scheduled to kick-off at 14:00.

Come on the Stripes!
