Stripes to face Wanderers in difficult test

by Ayrton Galea - 9th December 2013

Birkirkara FC's team has been going through an excellent patch in the BOV Premier League, but tomorrow evening they will be tested to their limit when they face an in-form Sliema Wanderers side.

In the pre-season, both teams set high expectations for the league campaign, and the 1-1 draw in the first round confirmed that there is not much to separate these two top-flight team.

The Stripes might have had a somewhat shaky start as after they were defeated by Hibernians and held by Qormi, and some started doubting their true strength. However, the strong character of the Birkirkara squad shined through. They roared back with a brilliant comeback, which saw them levelling points with Hibernians, after the latter had opened a seven points advantage.

Last Saturday, the Stripes extended their winning streak in the league to six matches, when they defeated Balzan FC with a comfortable 2-1 score, in a match where they overcame the resilient challenge put up by Balzan FC.

Sliema Wanderers are also enjoying a positive league campaign and they are highly considered as one of the title challengers.

Sliema Wanderers had a strong start in the BOV Premier League, but some off-day matches denied them from keeping the pace with joint leaders Birkirkara and Hibernians. In the last match, they failed to keep their early two-goal lead as they were held by Naxxar Lions in a 2-2 draw.

Both teams will be unable to field their best formation, as Matheus Bissi for Birkirkara is ruled-out injured, while Mark Scerri and Alessandro Rapino for Sliema Wanderers are suspended.

The match is going to be played at the Hibernians Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:00. The Birkirkara supporters are allocated the Side ‘A', together with the supporters of Vittoriosa FC.

Come on the Stripes!
