Stripes to take on Balzan

by Ayrton Galea - 6th December 2013

Birkirkara FC will be aiming to keep its leadership of the BOV Premier League when it takes on Balzan FC this Saturday afternoon.

The Stripes might have had a somewhat shaky start to the league. After they were defeated by Hibernians and held to a draw by Qormi, some started doubting their true strength. However, the strong character of the Birkirkara squad shone through. They roared back with a brilliant comeback, which saw them levelling points with Hibernians, after the latter had opened a seven points advantage.

In their last match, the Stripes extended their winning streak in the league to five matches, when they defeated Rabat Ajax with a comfortable 4-2 score, in a match where they proved to be too strong for the Magpies.

They also received a confidence booster one week ago in the U*BET FA Trophy competition. After falling a goal behind, they made a comeback to trounce Vittoriosa with a score of 4-1, and secured a place in the fourth round of the U*BET FA Trophy.

On the other hand, Balzan are currently in the eighth position with twelve points. They are one of the teams still seeking a Championship Pool place. Balzan are going through a fine moment as following a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hibernians, they held Valletta in a 1-1 draw before beating Vittoriosa 2-1 in their last match.

Birkirkara will be without the services of Ryan Camenzuli who will be suspended after collecting his fourth yellow card in the 4-2 victory over Rabat Ajax. Matheus Bissi is sidelined with injury after suffering a quad-muscle injury during training.

In the first round match, Birkirkara came back from behind to defeat Balzan with a score of 2-1.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:00.

Come on the Stripes!
