Under-19's to be crowned Champions tonight

by Ayrton Galea - 9th April 2014

Birkirkara FC's Under-19's Team will be crowned Champions this evening when in the last match of the Youths League Section A, they take on bottom placed Melita FC.

The Stripes had an excellent season and they made sure of winning the Youths League Section A title three matches from the end, when they defeated St. Andrew's with a 5-2 score. In the previous two matches, despite having sealed the title, the players remained in top form and beat Mosta 4-3 score and Hamrun 4-2.

Winning this title was a new page in the Club's history, as this was the first time that the Under-19's Team managed to win this title. Captain McAllisther Clinch shared his views with our website following this memorable achievement.

Clinch told us, “This season was the best season in my football career. It was a special one because this is my last year as an Under-19's Team player, so personally I'm going to end the Under-19's level as a Champion. Also, this was a special league because we achieved a lot of targets for our club and we're hoping to achieve more in today's game.”

Birkirkara are on the forty-five point mark, and with just one point from tonight's match, they will be the team that most won points in the Youths' League Section A history. During this season, the Stripes also managed to make an incredible run of twelve straight victories. We asked the Under-19's Team Captain about the secret of this success.

The Birkirkara defender, who played an excellent role in the heart of the Birkirkara defence said, “The key that led to success was the team spirit that we had on and off the pitch. To achieve these results we worked very hard in pre-season and also during the whole season. We never took a single training session for granted, even on a Sunday morning we would be there for training. This year best team's attribute was that we had a winning mentality and we always believed in ourselves in every single match.”

Asked about the best match of the season, McAllisther said, “During this season all of the matches were memorable but there were two matches that will stay in my memory. First, the match against Hibernians. The committee and technical stuff organised that the team stays for a day at a hotel, in preparation, and we won the game 1-0. Then there was the game against St. Andrew's, when we won 5-2 and were mathematically Champions.”

McAllisther, who already had a taste of Senior Team action during last season's AME Cup and this year's Euro Cup, is looking forward for more years with our Club. “Every player that plays for Birkirkara wishes that he will wear the Birkirkara shirt with the Senior Team. My dream is to stay with Birkirkara because I've been playing with Birkirkara from when I was a child. It's my dream to stay with the club I love the most.”

Tonight's match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 19:00. The team will be lifting the cup after the match and Clinch concluded by appealing to all the Birkirkara supporters to turn in numbers for tonight's match, “We worked really hard this season for tonight's moment of lifting the cup. We are waiting eagerly to see a good amount of supporters to watch us lift the cup. It would be memorable for us the see the Birkirkara supporters turning in their numbers because Birkirkara is the Club with most supporters.”

Come on the Stripes!
