Hopeful Birkirkara clash against Diosgyor

by Ayrton Galea - 10th July 2014

Birkirkara FC will be hoping for better luck this evening, when in a must win situation they face Diosgyor VTK, in the home leg of the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

Birkirkara might be still blaming the lack of luck that condemned them to a 2-1 defeat, three minutes into added time, in last Thursday's away leg. However, the Stripes could make things right this evening, as they will qualify with a minimum of a 1-0 victory.

The Stripes, who were seeded for the draw, were drawn to face the second highest quoted team from the unseeded pool. Birkirkara were tested to their limit, when at the start of the second half, Matheus Bissi was sent off for a double booking. The Stripes showed great resilience but Bacsa's goal three minutes in added time handed a home-win for Diosgyor.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 19:30. Tickets will be on sale from the Stadium on match day. Tickets for adults cost €25.00, while for children under 12 the price is of €1.00.

If Birkirkara manages to qualify, they will face Litex Lovech of Bulgaria or FC Venis of Moldova. In the first leg, which was played in Moldova, they shared the spoils in a goal-less draw. The first leg of the second qualifying round will be played away on the 17 July.

Come on the Stripes!
