Stripes take on Balzan

by Ayrton Gales - 13th December 2014

Birkirkara FC will will be hoping to make them three in a row, when they take on Balzan FC this afternoon, and this will be the perfect opportunity to put pressure on the leading duo of Hibernians and Valletta.

With Valletta and Hibernians meeting tomorrow in the top of the table clash, Birkirkara can narrow the gap with them, especially Valletta who are just one point over the Stripes. Birkirkara are lying thirteen points under Hibernians and one under Valletta.

The Stripes seem to be back on the right track as they have registered two consecutive victories with an identical 3-1 score against Zebbug Rangers and Naxxar Lions. They also made it to the fourth round of the Malta FA Trophy when they easily eliminated Hamrun Spartans with a very comfortable 7-1 score.

On the other hand, today's opponents are one of the most surprising, yet inconsistent teams in this year's Premier League. Following an outstanding start which saw them inflicting the Stripes' first-defeat with a 3-2 score, Balzan have gone eight matches without a win and they are coming from a 1-1 draw against Qormi in their last match.

Both teams will be unavailable to field their best formation as Matheus Bissi for Birkirkara and Samir Arab for Balzan are suspended. Bissi collected his fourth yellow card in the last match against Naxxar while Samir was sent off in their last match against Qormi.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:15.

Come on the Stripes!
