Stripes seek to return to winning ways

by Ayrton Galea - 21st February 2015

Having been denied a win for three consecutive times by a late equaliser, Birkirkara FC will be seeking to return to winning ways this Sunday, and kick-off their third and last round commitments with a victory when they take on Naxxar Lions on Sunday afternoon.

Coming from a ten-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, Birkirkara got another significant boost when they reached the Semi-Finals of the FA Trophy after defeated Pieta Hotspurs with a 3-0 score, thanks to an outstanding performance that certainly lifted the Stripes' spirits.

The Stripes might be considered as favourites for this encounter, but they will be aware of Naxxar's threat especially after their impressive 4-0 victory over Zebbug Rangers. Naxxar are occupying the ninth place, joined with Tarxien Rainbows and Pieta Hotspurs on the eleven point mark, two points over Qormi.

The Stripes are still to confirm Rafael Ledesma's fitness, while Gareth Sciberras is expected to be completely recovered after he was on the bench in last Sunday's match. On the other hand, Naxxar will have David Fenech and Frank Temile suspended.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.

In the first two rounds, Birkirkara clinched maximum points by beating Naxxar Lions thanks to 1-0 and 3-1 victories respectively.

Come on the Stripes!
