Eight Birkirkara FC Youth Academy products in last Sunday's line-up

by Ayrton Galea - 18th March 2015

Birkirkara FC Youth Academy has always believed in the importance of having its players make it to the Seniors Team. Last Sunday's match against Floriana was a showcase of this mentality, as the Stripes had no less than eight Academy products in the eighteen-man squad.

The eight players, were all between the ages of nineteen and twenty-three. This continues to confirm the importance that the Senior Team gives to its Academy players.

Kurt Zammit was given the nod for the first start with the Senior Team, along-side Joseph Zerafa, Rowen Muscat and Ryan Camenzuli. Ryan Scicluna and Antoine Borg, the latter joining the Senior Team this year, were included as substitutes, while Russell Gatt De Raffaele and Shawn Deguara, both still forming part of the Under-19's team were not fielded.

This was followed with the National Team call-up for Ryan Camenzuli. The Stripes had five players called up, and Ryan Camenzuli and Rowen Muscat are Academy products. Ryan Scicluna, also a product of the Birkirkara FC Youth Academy, who is of recent regular face in the National Team, was ruled-out as he is still recovering from an injury.
