Birkirkara face rivals Valletta

by Ayrton Galea - 13th September 2015

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to return to winning ways this evening when they take on Valletta FC in this weekend's hottest fixture.

Despite the BOV Premier League still being in the initial phase, both sides will be seeking to lay down an early maker of their title aspirations. Birkirkara and Valletta, along with Hibernians , are considered as the main title contenders, and today's match will serve the perfect opportunity to judge their true potential.

The Stripes will be seeking a win, after they dropped their first points in their last match when they lost the lead twice to settle for a 2-2 draw against Tarxien Rainbows. In the opening match of the league, they had demolished Naxxar Lions with a comfortable 4-0 score.

On the other hand, Valletta registered a perfect start by winning maximum points in their first two fixtures. They launched their Premier League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over St. Andrew's and went on by beating Sliema Wanderers with a late goal thanks to Federico Falcone.

Last season, these two teams met five times . The Stripes opened the season on a positive note by beating Valletta in the BOV Super Cup with a 2-1 score and went on to win the league's first-round match with a 2-0 score. On the other hand, the second-round match ended in a 1-1 draw with Valletta winning the third round match with a 2-1 score. However, the Stripes had their last laugh as they eliminated the Citizens in the Semi-Final of the Malta FA Trophy thanks to a goal by Paul Fenech in the extra-time period after a goal-less score in the first ninety minutes.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 19:00.

Come on the Stripes!
