Stripes, City in this week's big match

by Ayrton Galea - 5th December 2015

Birkirkara FC will be involved in this week's big match of the BOV Premier League when they will be facing leaders Valletta FC in the much-awaited match.

With just two points separating these two teams, as Valletta are sharing the top spot with Hibernians twenty-eighth points, two over the Stripes, tonight's match promises to be another balanced encounter between the two teams who shared the biggest rivalry in Maltese Football for the last twenty years.

The Stripes started their second-round's commitments on the wrong foot after throwing away a two-goal lead against Naxxar Lions to only take a point from the match in a 2-2 draw but they returned to winning ways last Wednesday when a goal by Ryan Camenzuli was enough to secure a 1-0 victory.

On the other hand, Valletta are coming from two comfortable victories following a 4-0 victory against bottom-placed St. Andrew's in the first match of the second round before scoring another four goals in their last match in the 4-2 victory over Sliema Wanderers.

Valletta emerged as winners in the first-round match with a 2-1 score thanks to a late goal by Njongo Priso and there is no doubt that the Stripes will be all-out get a sportive revenge in tonight's match which will see them overcome the same Citizens with one point.

Both Coaches, Tedesco for the Stripes and Zammit for the Citizens, will be unable to field their best formation as Miccoli is still ruled-out injured while Ian Azzopardi will be serving a one-match suspension after he was sent-off in the 4-2 victory over Sliema Wanderers.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:00.

Come on the Stripes!
