Matija Smrekar joins Birkirkara FC

by Ivan Mizzi - 28th January 2016

Croatian forward Matija Smrekar is Birkirkara FC's eighth signing during this January Transfer Market, as just a few moments ago, the twenty-six year old forward signed a contract with our Club.

The Stripes remained the most active locally and they continued to further improve their squad by the signing of Matija. He is best known as a central opportunistic striker who is always found at the right place inside the box. During the second term of last season, he was playing in Romania's top division with CS Pandurii.

Before moving to Romania, the strong striker was playing in Slovenia. In Season 2012-2013 he joined NK Maribor while he spent the following one and a half season with NK Zavrc. With Zavrc, he played nineteen matches and scored ten goals.

Smrekar will be the sixth foreigner to join our Club during this January Transfer Market, after Goalkeeper Miroslav Kopric, Central-defender Christian Bubalovic, midfielders Edison Bilbao and Mislav Andelkovic, and utility player Goran Mujanovic.

We would like to welcome Matija while wishing him all the best of luck in his adventure with our Club.
