Stripes, Greens in FA Trophy Quarter-Final showdown

by Ayrton Galea - 20th April 2016

Birkirkara FC will be all-out to advance in the Malta FA Trophy with the aim to win the second most prestigious honour in Maltese football for the second year running, when this evening they take on Floriana FC.

Birkirkara, still fresh from an excellent display against Valletta despite a goal-less draw, will be fancying their chances to make it to the last four of the competition, as they will be going to this match with high momentum.

Not the same could be said for the Greens, as after beating neighbours Valletta, their joy was short-lived as a goal in stoppage time condemned them to a 3-2 defeat by Pembroke Athleta following a below-level performance.

Birkirkara advanced to the Quarter-Final by eliminating Valletta in the fourth-round thanks to a solitary goal by Ryan Camenzuli mid-way through the second-half. On the other hand, Floriana booked their place to this stage after eliminating BOV First Division League side Lija Athletic with a narrow 2-1 score.

The Stripes are yet to beat Floriana this season. The first two-rounds of the BOV Premier League ended goal-less while in the third-round match, a goal by Juninho Cabral seven minutes from time handed Floriana a win.

Birkirkara's coach Mr. Drazen Besek will be unable to field his best formation as Joseph Zerafa will begin his first of two matches' suspension, as he was sent off in the last minutes of the Quarter-Final match against Valletta.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:00.

Come on the Stripes!
