Stripes take on Hibernians

by Ayrton Galea - 23rd April 2016

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to move alone in the third place of the BOV Premier League and extend their unbeaten this evening when they take on Hibernians FC who will be all-out for the victory.

It has been a very positive week for the Stripes who after holding Valletta in a goal-less draw on Sunday in a match where they were better for long stretches, they kept their FA Trophy defence on the right track after eliminating Floriana with a 2-0 score.

On the other hand, Hibernians weren't involved in the FA Trophy since they have been eliminated in the fourth-round but they will also be approaching today's match in a good atmosphere after beating Balzan with a comfortable 3-1 score and a very satisfactory performance in their last match.

Out of the equation for winning the league title by last week's goal-less draw, the Stripes will be aspiring to take the a sole position in the third place after Balzan lost to Valletta. A win for the Stripes would also see their five-point gap to Hibernians trimmed to just two points while handing the title to Valletta.

Coach Mr. Drazen Besek must do without Ryan Camenzuli and Ryan Scicluna who are both injured but on a more positive note, Joseph Zerafa will be back for the Stripes after missing last Wednesday's match due to a suspension.

While Birkirkara and Hibernians shared the spoils in the first-round match in a 1-1 draw with Birkirkara's goal being scored by Ryan Camenzuli, Hibernians emerged victorious with a 2-0 score thanks to a goal in each half by Gilmar Ribeiro and Bjorn Kristensen.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 18:00.

Come on the Stripes!
