Stripes aim for sole leadership

by Ayrton Galea - 18th September 2016

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to take sole leadership of the BOV Premier League, following yesterday's draw between Balzan and Valletta. For this to happen Birkirkara have make it four wins in a row when by beating Sliema Wanderers FC this evening.

The Stripes registered two convincing victories in the opening two matches with identical 4-0 scores against St. Andrew's and Tarxien Rainbows. However, last Sunday, despite showing superiority for long stretches, it was only a goal by substitute James Brincat twelve minutes from time that enabled them to beat Hamrun Spartans with a narrow 2-1 score.

On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers will be all out to gain their first points after they have lost their opening three matches. They lost with a 2-1 score against Valletta, then 1-0 against both Hibernians and Gzira United, to remain anchored at the bottom of the table without any points.

The Stripes will once again be without the services of defender Christian Bubalovic, who is still recovering from an injury. Otherwise, coach Besek has a full squad at his disposal.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and will kick off at 20:00.

Come on the Stripes!
