Birkirkara seek to keep title challenge on track

by Ayrton Galea - 30th October 2016

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to keep their title challenge on track while having the opportunity to narrow the gap with leaders Balzan FC in the BOV Premier League, but their task is anything than easy when they face Hibernians FC this afternoon.

The Stripes and the Paolites will square off in the match of the week where two points are separating the sides. Birkirkara have nineteen points, four points under Balzan, but with a game in hand and a win will see them moving just one point under the leaders while a win for Hibernians will put them alone in the second place.

Birkirkara were in a brilliant form last week when they trashed Gzira United with a 7-1 score to register the biggest victory in this year's league campaign. This win continued to gain momentum for the Stripes following an important 3-0 win against Balzan, which was the first loss for them.

On the other hand, Hibernians returned to winning ways last weekend when a goal by Jackson Lima was enough to beat the stiff challenge of St. Andrew's. The Paolites had registered back-to-back draws against Gzira United and Floriana respectively before this match.

Coach Drazen Besek does not have any new injury worries, while Hibernians will be without Joseph Mbong, as he is suspended for this match after the youngster was sent-off for a double booking in the last match.

Today's match will be played in aid of ALS Malta and the Club would like to encourage all the supporters to be generous and help this foundation by sending a SMS on 5061 8170 for a donation of €4.66 or on 5061 9271 for a donation of €11.65. Both teams will be wearing ALS Malta shirts prior kick-off to support this foundation.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 17:00.

Come on the Stripes!
