Match Preview: Birkirkara FC vs. Senglea Athletic FC

by Ayrton Galea - 27th January 2018

Birkirkara FC will have a golden opportunity to climb to the fourth place of the BOV Premier League and extend their winning streak to six matches, but first they must overcome the tricky test in form of Senglea Athletic FC.

With Floriana FC losing to St. Andrew's FC in a quite surprising result, the Stripes will have a golden opportunity to leapfrog the Greens and join Hibernians FC in the fourth place, after the latter defeated Gzira United FC with a 2-0 score.

The Stripes are coming from five consecutive victories in the league and booked their place in the Quarter-Final of the BOOST FA Trophy last week, although they struggled more than expected as they needed an extra-time goal to defeat San Gwann FC.

However, Birkirkara's task is anything than easy as Senglea have emerged as winners with a dramatic late-goal in the first-round experience. This was the first defeat of Coach Paul Zammit, after taking the helm of the Club again.

Senglea are occupying the tenth place in the league standings. Following a narrow loss against Valletta FC, they returned to winning ways in their last match as they defeated bottom-placed Lija Athletic FC with a 2-0 score.

Coach Paul Zammit will welcome back midfielder Ryan Scicluna as he returns from a one-match suspension in the league. Latest signings Waldemar Acosta and Terence Agius are both eligible for selection.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 14:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 12:45.

Come on the Stripes!
