by Ayrton Galea - 29th August 2018

Three Birkirkara FC players namely Kurt Zammit, Matthew Guillaumier and Myles Beerman have been selected with the provisional squad Under-21's National Team for the 2019 UEFA Under-21 Championship Group Six home qualifier against Belgium on the 7 September.

Zammit and Beerman are a regular choice by Coach Silvio Vella, but Guillaumier has been selected again following spending most of last season on the side-lines due to an unfortunate injury. However, the twenty-year-old midfielder has fully recovered and has been selected again.

Guillaumier shared his views on being selected again with the Under-21's National Team. “I am very happy to be able to represent my country again after all this time. Every football players aim is to make it to the National Team, so I am very happy and glad to be back on track after the injury.”

He added, “The U-21 is the last step before reaching the National A Team and I hope that the experience I have from the U-21s will one day lead to a call up with the seniors.”

Malta, who are still looking for first points in this competition, will take on Belgium on Friday, 7 September. This will match will be followed by another two home matches as Malta wrap up their group commitments against Hungary (12 October) and Cyprus (16 October).

As part of their preparations for their final two qualifiers in October, the Malta Under-21s will play a home friendly match against Georgia on September 11.

We would like to congratulate all three players while wishing all the best of luck to the Under-21's National Team.
