Post match interview with Michael Mifsud

by Ayrton Galea - 27th August 2018

Forward Michael Mifsud inspired Birkirkara FC to a fine comeback on Saturday evening, as he scored the equalising goal in the 2-1 victory over Pieta Hotspurs FC. This was his first goal in his first appearance with our Club in the BOV Premier League.

Michael joined our Club in the summer transfer market, and the rapid-forward has so far scored two goals in three appearances. After missing the first match against Balzan FC, he left his mark in his first league match with our Club, as his goal was vital for the Stripes to complete the comeback.

Mifsud opened by saying, “I'm happy that I scored, but I'm happier that we got with the three points from a match like this. All merit to the team of Pieta, who has started again their experience in the BOV Premier League. They are a young team with a big heart.”

He added, “They managed to score first, but we showed character in the second half and we showed that we are united as a team. We managed to get the equalising goal and even the winning goal.”

Responsibility with the team

Being one of the most veteran players in the team, Michael feels that when things are not going well, it's players like him that should show character and push the team forward.

The experienced forward said, “There is myself, there is Paul Fenech and there are other well-experiences players. We need to be those players to push the team forward in difficult moments. Everyone can be good in good moments, but it's in difficult moments that you show your character.”

“However, I must say it again, that we are very united as a team. We were very consistent in our efforts in the second half and we got the victory. I would like to thank the supporters as they kept backing us even when we were losing. I thank them as they form an important part from the team”.

Objectives with Birkirkara FC

Mifsud was set to join Birkirkara FC long time ago, but the deal was not concluded. However, after joining our Club this year, the veteran forward is seeking to keep his trend of winning as much silverware as possible with our Club.

“I was coming with Birkirkara FC long time ago, but we didn't manage to conclude. However, this year we finalised and wherever I go, my objectives are to win as much silverware as possible especially in this period of my career. I want to win every honour possible.”

Message for the supporters

Michael signed off this interview with a message for the supporters. “I would like to thank a lot our supporters for their huge welcome. I encourage them to stay behind us throughout the whole season in good and in bad times. Thank you!”
