Eduardo - 'We will impose our rhythm'

by Ayrton Galea - 3rd April 2019

Towering defender Eduardo Ferreira stated that the team is focused on Friday's match and notwithstanding Hibernians' strength, the Stripes will be heading to this match with belief for the victory and looking to impose their rhythm.

The Stripes returned to winning ways in the BOV Premier League last Sunday when a late goal by forward Luke Montebello earned them a hard-fought victory against Sliema Wanderers FC.

While Montebello got the job done up front, Brazilian defender Eduardo Ferreira, one of the newcomers to Maltese football last summer, produced another solid performance to help his side to remain on track to secure a top-four finish.

The Brazilian defender provided his post-match comments, "We knew it was going to be a very difficult match, but we were very focused, each player did his best and we thank God for coming out with this victory."

Despite enjoying a string of positive performances, Eduardo is looking forward to further improvement, " I'm happy but I know I have the potential to do better and I've been looking for this to give my best in every match."

The Stripes have the third best defence as they conceded just one goal less than Hamrun Spartans FC and Valletta FC respectively. Last Sunday's match was the twelfth consecutive clean-sheet and Eduardo believes that the Stripes could have registered few more. "I think we could have registered a few more (clean-sheets), but football is like this, we do not always get what we want."

With one point under Hamrun Spartans FC and four matches to go, the Stripes' hopes of securing a top-four finish are alive and kicking, despite they would still need that one of the first three teams to win the FA Trophy to secure European football next season.

The towering defender was straight to the point on the club's objectives. "Yes, of course, our biggest target is to secure European football. For that to happen, we must stay focused and work hard. We have also the chance to qualify by winning the FA Trophy."

Birkirkara will face another tough test this Friday when they take on Hibernians FC who are desperate for a win following three consecutive draws. Despite the strength of the opponents, Eduardo insists that the Stripes will impose their rhythm.

"We are well focused as always. Hibernians FC are a good team and they are challenging to be the Champions of Malta. However, we also have a very good team. We will impose our rhythm and put faith in God to achieve the victory."

He concluded this interview with a message to the supporters. "The supporters are very important for us, the players, that's for sure. I have a great affection for all of our supporters and we always try to achieve the victory to make them happy."
