Guillaumier: A small reward for my personal efforts

by Ayrton Galea - 28th May 2019

Birkirkara FC midfielder Matthew Guillaumier believes that claiming the Young Player of the Year was a small reward for all his efforts, as the midfielder shared his views following this personal achievement.

Guillaumier was undoubtedly one of the Stripes' best players and he earned a place in the starting-eleven selection. Despite the Stripes failed to reach the target, his brilliant performances earned him this well-deserved award.

"I am very happy to have been selected as the best young player for this season," Guillaumier said.

He added, "I would like to thank everyone involved throughout the season especially my family, teammates, supporters, coaches of both Birkirkara and national teams and everyone associated with Birkirkara. Would also like to say a special thank you to our physio Aaron has helped me a lot through my injuries.

"This season was a very hard and long season and didn't go as planned at all. This is just a small reward for my personal efforts but could not have been done without all the people I mentioned to thank above.

"Now we all need to start again from scratch and work to get Birkirkara back to where it belongs. As for the injury, I have not recovered completely and am still in rehab. I am missing the next two international games because of it but I should be recovered soon."

Guillaumier concluded by talking about his future, "As I have said before it is a dream of mine to play football professionally abroad, but I am fully committed to Birkirkara as I still have another year on my current contract."
