BOV Premier League - Birkirkara FC vs. Gudja United FC

by Ayrton Galea - 3rd November 2019

Birkirkara FC will be seeking to revive their fortunes in the BOV Premier League when in a must-win match, they take on Gudja United FC on Monday evening in a match that will be played at the Centenary Stadium (Kick-Off - 19:00).

The first eight matches have certainly did not go to plan for the Stripes who would have never imagined that they would be lying in the bottom places of the league standings with just one victory after eight matches.

Have conceded the first defeat under the guidance of Andre Paus, the Stripes' bid to return to winning ways in the last match against Hamrun Spartans FC failed as they couldn't go beyond a goalless draw to leave them desperate to get out of the bottom places.

However, this tricky encounter against the struggling Gudja United side could provide the Stripes a much-needed victory that would see them not just climbing a place in the standings but also close the gap with the other teams.

Yet, their task will consist of facing another side who is desperate for a win as Gudja United, one of the newly-promoted teams this season, are still searching for their first victory and they are coming from four consecutive defeats.

Following four positive draws in their first opening four matches against Hibernians FC, Hamrun Spartans FC, Santa Lucia FC, and Sliema Wanderers FC, they were defeated by Floriana FC, Balzan FC, Valletta FC, and Gzira United FC in their last match with a 6-1 score.

Coach Andre Paus must do without the suspended Matthew Guillaumier as the Birkirkara midfield has a one-match ban after he was sent off in the last match against Hamrun Spartans FC.
