Birkirkara FC's run of twelve matches without a defeat in the BOV Premier League came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as Hamrun Spartans FC won the match with a 2-0 score.

Coach Andre Paus was without the services of Oscar Matias Carniello and Federico Falcone. While, Cain Attard returned from a one-match ban and replaced Carniello and Luke Montebello replaced Federico Falcone.

Hamrun surged ahead as early as the eight minutes, thanks to Ailton Jorge dos Santos who hit well past goalkeeper Alessandro Guarnone, after receiving the ball from Joseph Mbong.

Hamrun continued to dictate matters and on the 27 minutes, Guarnone came to the Stripes' rescue when he charged out of his goal to block the goal-bound Corbalan who was put clear by Guillaumier.

On the 34 minutes, Guarnone did well again to palm away Oyama`s ins-winger.

Birkirkara's first decent scoring opportunity arrived on the 47 minutes, when Caio Prado was put clear, but his square pass towards Alex Alves was too long and Hamrun managed to clear.

Five minutes later, Ailton Soares had a close-range effort blocked by the goalkeeper Guarnone.

Hamrun came close to double their lead on the 63 minutes, when Ailton Soares almost notched his second, but he saw his low drive cleared off the line by the substitute Isaac Ntow.

On the other side of the pitch, Caio came close to make the score level when he latched onto a long pass and tried to flick the ball past Bartolo but the goalkeeper managed to deflect the ball into a corner.

On the 83 minutes, Hamrun`s goalkeeper did well to keep out Attard's cross-shot.

However, it was Hamrun who scored on the 90 minutes and sealed the points, when Ailton Soares took advantage of Reginald Alidor's failure backpass towards Guarnone and did a great run before racing clear and slotting past Guarnone.
