October, the best month so far?

by Ayrton Galea - 2nd November 2011

On Monday Birkirkara played the last game for October, and following is a short roundup of the month. One can consider this as the best month for our Club, so far in this season.

In this month Birkirkara played three matches and the squad gave satisfying performances in all three. They marginally lost the first match of this month and won the other two comfortably.

Matches

In the first match of October which was played on Saturday, 15 October, Birkirkara crossed swords with eternal rivals Valletta and despite a fine performance 'The Stripes' suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Birkirkara bounced back with the biggest win so far in this Premier League which was played one week later, on the 22 October. Birkirkara humiliated Hamrun with a 4-0 score, although one must say that the result was a bit harsh for our opponents.

'The Stripes' extended their positive run when in the last game of October, Birkirkara found no difficulty to beat Floriana with a 3-0 score after the latter had goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo sent off.

Team Statistics

In these three matches, 16 players were utilised. Moises Avila Perez is still the top scorer of the team as he has now scored six goals, the last one being the goal in the first match of the month against Valletta.

In this month, Birkirkara suffered six yellow cards which is quite less than the other month. Once again no red cards were shown to our players.

In the last two matches, Birkirkara were awarded two penalties in their favour, and Trevor Cilia scored both.

New Acquisitions

The squad was strengthened with the acquisition of two foreign players.

The first one was Dragan Perisic, a Serbian defender who joined our club in the second week of October and made his debut against Valletta.

The second acquisition for this month was another Serbian, former Ermis Aradippou goalkeeper, Alexandar Canovic. He joined our Club in the last day of October and made his debut on the same day in the match against Floriana where he was utilised as a substitute.

Head Coach

In the end of September Mr. Patrick Curmi parted way with Birkirkara F.C., and on the 2 October, Mr. Paul Zammit was once again appointed as Head Coach of our squad and he was presented during a meeting for the Club's members on the same day.
