Depleted Birkirkara to face unbeaten Hibs

by Ayrton Galea - 3rd December 2011

Despite having a depleted squad, Birkirkara have to try to overcome last week's disappointments and return to winning ways. However, to do this 'The Stripes' have to overcome the difficult task of beating Hibernians, who are undefeated in this league campaign.

Last week, Birkirkara were involved in two matches and they failed to pick maximum points on both occasions. 'The Stripes' opened the week with a disappointing performance when they were beaten with a 2-0 score by 10 men Qormi. Last Sunday, Birkirkara's performance improved but it was not enough to win the three points as they were held in a goal-less draw by Mosta, although Birkirkara hit the post twice.

On the other hand, tomorrow's opponents Hibernians opened the second round in the same way as they opened the first round, that is, with a draw against Sliema, this time with a 1-1 score. In their last match, despite having several important players ruled out they still managed to win by by beating Marsaxlokk with a 2-0 score.

Birkirkara will have, what many are considering as their best players, ruled out as Birkirkara's top scorer Moises Avila Perez and Club's captain Paul Fenech are suspended. Shaun Bajada, who returned from a long-term injury, is also suspended for this match. Dragan Perisic, who was substituted in the last match, is ruled out due to injury. On a much more positive note, Rodrigo Pereira and Rowen Muscat are back from an injury, and Leighton Grech is back from a one match suspension.

No result but a win will satisfy Birkirkara as they will try to narrow the gap between the three teams above them. On the other hand, Hibernians are also in a must-win situation in order to keep the pace with leaders Valletta.

In the first round, Hibernians dominated and found no difficulty in beating Birkirkara with a 3-0 score.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and will leave at 15:00.

Come on the Stripes!
