Champions look to bounce back

by Ayrton Galea - 31st August 2013

Maltese Champions Birkirkara will be looking to bounce back after last Saturday's draw, when they face the strengthened side Balzan FC later on today.

Football has a habit of springing shock results, especially in the early stages like this, were teams are still settling down. With this in mind, the Stripes will have to make sure not to concede any slip ups, as Balzan, who were very active in this Transfer Window surely have what it takes to get something from this match.

The Stripes were on the right track to extend their perfect start in the Premier League as Demba Toure's header put the Champions temporarily in the lead last Saturday against Sliema Wanderers. However, Wanderers' dynamic midfielder Mathias Mucchardi's wonderful strike denied the Stripes from the second consecutive win as both teams registered the first draw of the league.

On the other hand, Balzan notched their first win last Saturday as they defeated Rabat Ajax with a 2-0 score, after picking up their first point in the first match of the league when they shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw against Vittioriosa Stars.

The Stripes will be boosted by the return of National player Edward Herrera who will be back after serving a one-match ban.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:45.

Come on the Stripes!
