Stripes face Gzira United in a tricky encounter

by Ayrton Galea - 4th February 2017

Birkirkara FC will be involved in a tricky test in the BOV Premier League tomorrow afternoon, when they will take on Gzira United FC.

The Stripes will be willing to continue building on last weekend's victory with the aim to pile-up the pressure on the first three teams in the league standings as the Stripes will be seeking their second consecutive victory.

A goal by Vito Plut and another one by Nikola Vukanac ten minutes from time saw the Stripes coming from behind to defeat Hibernians FC with a 2-1 score last Sunday. This victory saw the Stripes climbing to the fourth place while narrowing the gap with third-placed Valletta FC to just three points.

On the other hand, Gzira United will be coming to this match with optimism as the Maroons will also be seeking their second consecutive victory that will help them in the challenge against the relegation. The Maroons are in the tenth place, three points over Mosta FC and Pembroke Athleta FC.

Last weekend, they registered a brilliant victory against Floriana with a 4-3 score in an entertaining match that saw the Maroons coming from a goal behind to score four goals before the Greens' late comeback fell short.

Both teams were active in the last days of the January Transfer Market. The Stripes signed forward Jhon Obregon while Gzira United made a major signing as Andrew Cohen joined the Maroons on a permanent move, ending a twenty-five spell with Hibernians FC.

Birkirkara will be boosted by the return of Gary Muir after the Scottish defender missed the last match due to a one-match ban.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 14:00.

The Club will be organising transport for this match and it will leave Valley Road at 13:15.

Come on the Stripes!
