Transfer Market Round-Up

by Ayrton Galea - 31st January 2018

The January Transfer Market 2018 came to an end yesterday at midnight. Birkirkara FC were among the most-active Clubs in this transfer market by signing no less than six new players.

Birkirkara FC signed six new players that include five foreign players and one Maltese player. Three foreigners were signed before the January Transfer Market opened but their registrations were registered with the Malta Football Association in the first week of January.

The Stripes signed goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski, defender Fernando Barbosa and forward Srdjan Dimitrov in the third week of December. The Club then signed Uruguayan forward Waldemar Acosta, midfielder Terence Agius on loan from Balzan FC and Montegrin forward Ognjen Rolovic.

Kristijan Naumovski: The towering goalkeeper has joined our Club in the third week of December. He quickly left a very good impression and he is yet to concede a goal in the BOV Premier League after his first three appearances in this competition.

Fernando Barbosa: The defensive abilities of Barbosa have as well quickly caught the eye. The robust defender has so far made three appearances in the BOV Premier League. He joined our Club in the third week of December, following a short-spell in the top-division of Portugal.

Srdjan Dimitrov: No need for any introduction for the Serbian midfielder, as he had already established himself as one of the best foreigners in Malta last season. The playmaker signed a fresh contract in December, and he has already scored four goals.

Waldemar Acosta: The Uruguayan forward joined our Club in the third week of January and he made his debut in the last match, in the 5-0 victory over Senglea Athletic FC. Despite not putting his name on the scoring-sheet, his movement on and off the ball gave a good impression.

Terence Agius: Joining our Club in the last week of January from Balzan FC on loan till the end of the season, the hard-working midfielder made a successful debut in the 5-0 victory over Senglea Athletic FC, when he was included as a substitute twenty minutes inside the second half.

Ognjen Rolovic: Have established himself as one of the best foreigners in the Gozo First Division League, Rolovic became Birkirkara's last signing in the January Transfer Market as he joined our Club from Kercem Ajax FC on loan till the end of the season.

On the other hand, the Club parted ways with five foreigners namely Bruno Andrade, Ernest N'for, Fabiano Oliveira Landry Mulemo and Martin Klein.
