Birkirkara failed to capitalise on the glorius opportunity to go top of the league, when on Saturday, Floriana beat our side by a single goal to nil.

The match itself was a very drab one, with Floriana rarely testing Spanish goalkeeper Jorge Mora. On the other hand Angus Buhagiar had the best opportunity of the match for 'The Stripes' when he managed to go past the 'Greens' defence before crossing to his right only for Bernard Paris (on-loan from Birkirkara) to grab the ball before George Mallia could slot home.

With Sylvano Comvalius left on the bench, it was Buhagiar's duty to be a constant threat to the Floriana defence. Comvalius himself came on a substitute in the second-half and was deployed as an attacking midfielder on the right.

Another substitute, Joseph Zerafa had the unfortunate luck of having to commit a horrific error, when he misjudged the flight of the ball in the heart of the Birkirkara defence. Christian Caruana of Floriana took advantage of this mistake and calmly put the ball in the bottom right corner of Mora's goal.

With no time left for any reaction, the referee blew for full-time and sent the Birkirkara supporters home, cursing their luck and the team's performance during the match.
