Birkirkara to battle it out with Tarxien for second place

by Ayrton Galea - 11th February 2011

Birkirkara will be involved in one of their most important matches this season as tomorrow evening; The Stripes will face Tarxien Rainbows in a direct clash for the second place.

Birkirkara are coming from an embarrassing defeat, as last Saturday they were defeated by Qormi with 4-1 score, with several players performing below their true potential.

Tomorrow's opponents were also defeated in their last outing, when they lost the derby against Hibernians with a 3-1 result. Like Birkirkara, Tarxien Rainbows failed to impress and therefore tomorrows clash will be extremely important for both sides to return to winning ways.

Birkirkara are fourth with 26 points, two points less than Tarxien Rainbows. A victory for The Stripes tomorrow will see them climbing to second place, at least temporarily. The second match in tomorrows programme will see Valletta face Floriana, with the latter currently occupying the third position just one point ahead of Birkirkara. The outcome of these two matches will determine who ends the Second Round in the second, third and fourth place.

For the last match of the Second Round, Birkirkara will once again not be in their full strength as Trevor Cilia is still recovering from his injury. The latest signing Ibrahim Babatunde is expected to make his debut tomorrow after his International Transfer Certificate arrived on Wednesday evening. Andrei Agius, who was injured in last Wednesdays friendly match which Malta played against Switzerldand, should be available for Mr. Paul Zammits selection, as he is expected to recover in time.

In the First Round, both team shared the spoils in a goal-less draw. An interesting fact about these two teams is that Tarxien Rainbows have never managed to beat Birkirkara since their promotion to the Premier League in 2008.

Come on the Stripes!
