Birkirkara aiming to extend positive run

by Ayrton Galea - 5th November 2011

Birkirkara will be aiming to extend their positive run when on Sunday afternoon, 'The Stripes' will be involved in a tricky encounter against Tarxien Rainbows.

After the return of Mr. Paul Zammit as Head Coach of our club, the squad made a big improvement both in results and performances and after Birkirkara lost the first match against eternal rivals Valletta with a 2-1 score, they bounced back with two comfortable wins against Hamrun Spartans and Floriana with 4-0 and 3-0 scores respectively.

Tomorrow's opponents, Tarxien Rainbows also made some changes in their Technical Staff as they appointed the former Birkirkara Head Coach, Mr. Patrick Curmi instead of Mr. Noel Coleiro who parted ways with the club in the last days of October. In the last three matches 'The Rainbows' won only the last match, the first match under the new guidance of Mr. Curmi by beating Mqabba with a 3-2 score. In the previous two matches they were beaten by Marsaxlokk and Balzan with 4-2 and 2-1 scores respectively.

Birkirkara are currently third and definitely cannot afford to lose any points in these type of matches where 'The Stripes' could be considered as favorites. On the other hand, Tarxien also cannot afford to lose more points in the aim to get out of the red zone, as they are currently in the 11th place.

Angus Buhagiar is suspended for this game after collecting his fourth yellow card against Floriana. Jorge Mora who was doubtful for this match is available for selection as he recovered in time. Shaun Bajada is in the last weeks of his recovery.

For Tarxien, Ricardo Costa will be back after serving one match ban against Mqabba.

Last season Birkirkara and Tarxien met four times in the Premier League. Two of them ended in a goal-less draw, the other two were won with a 3-0 score by Birkirkara.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:15. Transport from Valley Road is available and will leave at 15:15.

Will 'The Stripes' make them three out of three, or will Tarxien manage to stop Birkirkara's positive run?
