Birkirkara, Vittoriosa fight for a place in 4th Round

by Ayrton Galea - 17th December 2011

Birkirkara are favourites to make it to the fourth round of the U*BET FA Trophy when tomorrow afternoon, 'The Stripes' will face the 1st Division side, Vittoriosa Stars.

In the last Premier League match, Birkirkara returned to winning ways with a solitary goal converted from a penalty by Terence Vella. This was the first win after three consecutive matches without a win and even failing to score a goal.

On the other hand, Vittoriosa are also going through a negative run as they are in the 8th position in the First Division. They registered their last win on the 23 September against Zejtun Corinthians when they emerged as winners with a 2-0 score. In the last seven matches they only picked three points thanks to three draws.

These two teams met this summer in the pre-season in the Mosta Tournament, when Birkirkara outgunned Vittoriosa Stars with a 5-1 score, with Moises Avila Perez scoring a hat trick.

However, all these statistics mean nothing for tomorrow's game as in football everything can happen and surprises and shocks happen all too often in this type of competition.

Mr. Paul Zammit will have Moises Avila Perez and Andrew Decesare back for his selection but Rodrigo Pereira, Dragan Perisic, Angus Buhagiar and Rowen Muscat are all injured. Rowen, who was replaced in the last match due to an injury, should be back for the match against Sliema.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 14:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 13:15.

Come on the Stripes!
