Stripes unbeaten throughout March

by Ayrton Galea - 1st April 2012

March came to an end just yesterday, and as we do are we have prepared a detailed roundup of what was the best month for the Club this season.

Birkirkara for the first time this season, stayed unbeaten for a whole month as they played five matches in which they won three and drew twice. The fine improvement shown in February was also extended in March especially when considering that ‘The Stripes' played four tough matches and they stayed unbeaten.

Besides the First Team's good results, another notable thing that occurred in March was the Women's Team being crowned champions for the fourth time. They were presented with the league cup on the 27th March.

Matches

Birkirkara's first match of the month was the last one of the second round. On the 4th March, they defeated Hamrun Spartans with a 3-1 score thanks to a brace by Jorge Santos Silva and another goal by Shola Shodiya.

The Championship Pool phase opened on a fine note, as in the first match against Floriana which was played on the 14 March, Birkirkara registered another 3-1 victory this time thanks to goals by Shola Shodiya, Nikola Vukanac and Moises Avila Perez.

Just three days later, Birkirkara's performance continued to improve and in a difficult match against Valletta, Birkirkara scored a late equaliser by converting a penalty thanks to Moises Avila Perez which enabled them to pick up a point in a 1-1 draw.

In the fourth match of this month, Birkirkara did the unexpected, when on 24 March, they defeated Hibernians who had only been defeated once that far. Once again it was from a penalty-kick taken by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza that gave ‘The Stripes' the three precious points in a 1-0 victory.

In the last match of March which was played yesterday, Birkirkara and Sliema shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with the Birkirkara goal scored by Jorge Santos Silva.
