Nikola Vukanac extends his stay

by Ivan Mizzi - 12th May 2012

Serbian defender Nikola Vukanac is the first player to renew his contract with Birkirkara FC as he has signed another one-year deal.

Nikola rejoined our Club this February on Monday, 6 February when he replaced Regillio Nooitmeer after the latter was released due to personal reasons.

Since then, Nikola won a regular place and he was essential in the Birkirkara's defence forming a strong central back with Rodrigo Pereira. Nikola made eleven appearances which he started all from the start and he managed to score a goal on the 14th March when he scored the second goal in the 3-1 victory against Floriana thanks to a powerful header.

We talked with Nikola about this decision and he told us, “Well, I'm very happy that the coach, committee, and president believed in my qualities and that they recognize my love and loyalty towards the Club. It's big compliment for me to stay for a fourth season with Birkirkara FC which is not so usual in Malta.

“I'm happy with my performances this season. I think I played very well but I'm sure that I can play even better, and that I can improve certain aspects of my game. Here I feel at home. I love this club. I spent the most beautiful moments in my career here. This club gave me a chance to prove myself especially Mr. Paul Zammit, he believed in me, he brought me here, together with Mr. Peter Busuttil who believed in me, helped me a lot as well and who gave me big support in every difficult situation.

“This is something that I really respect and appreciate; I will never forget it and i will give my best to pay it back on the pitch with my performances. My decision was very easy as I had no doubts and we concluded the contract very fast.”

We would like to thank Nikola for his services to our Club while wising him luck for even better performances in the next season.
