Birkirkara and Hibernians in decisive top of the table clash

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd December 2012

Birkirkara could end the year in the best possible way as a win will once again see them moving alone at the top of the table when they face current leaders Hibernians this afternoon.

Yesterday evening, Rabat extended the number of surprising results in this Premier League campaign as they held Valletta in a 1-1 draw with the current champions having to wait till three minutes till time to score the equalising goal.

Needless to say, Birkirkara received a major boost thanks to this result as they know that if they grab today's three precious points they will end this year as sole leaders. However, ‘The Stripes' need to improve from their last three Premier League outings as they drew in the matches against Balzan Youths, Rabat Ajax and Floriana.

On the other hand, Hibernians seems to be on fire after going through a negative patch. They managed to take sole leadership last weekend by trouncing Rabat Ajax with a 6-0 score, following a defeat against Qormi, and beating Melita 5-1.

Both teams will be unable to field their best formation as Shola Shodiya and Joselito Dos Reis are missing for ‘The Stripes' while Hibernians have Udo Nwoko and Bjorn Kristensen suspended with Jonathan Pearson and Rodolfo Soares injured.

Hibernians are first with 31 points while Birkirkara are third with 28 points, one under Valletta but the latter have played a match more. A win for the current leaders will see them opening a five point gap, but a win for ‘The Stripes' will see them moving back alone at the top of the table.

These two teams meet twice so far. In the Euro Cup Hibernians won with a 5-0 score but Birkirkara won the Premier League encounter thanks to a brilliant goal by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and will leave at 15:00.

We would like to urge you to come to the stadium and support our beloved players for this important match.

Come on the Stripes!
