Stripes to face Wanderers in tough test

by Ayrton Galea - 23rd August 2013

Champions Birkirkara will have to endure their first difficult test of the Premier League as on Saturday evening, they will face the strengthened side of Sliema Wanderers.

In one of the two matches in this weekend's fixtures that will see the main title challengers face off, the Stripes will consider this match as an opportunity to judge this year's squad potential, as an improved Sliema side will be making their bid to challenge for main honours.

After lifting the curtain on the 2013-2014 season in style by winning the Super Cup over U*BET FA Trophy winners Hibernians, the Stripes went on by kicking off their Premier League on a positive note, as they started their defence of the title with a 2-1 win over Rabat Ajax, thanks to a brace by Frank Temile.

On the other hand, after enjoying a positive 2012-2013 season, Sliema Wanderers strengthened their squad with several key-players and, they are now considered as one of the title challengers.

The Blues had an excellent start in their Premier League campaign, as thanks to a brace by Stanley Ohawuci and another by one of their signings during this Summer Transfer Window, Andrea Navarra saw them easily beating Qormi with a 4-0 score.

The Maltese Champions will have their latest signing, the Brazilian defender Matheus Bissi available for selection but National player Edward Herrera is unavailable due to suspension.

The match is going to be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:30. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 19:30.

Come on the Stripes.
